 A general x-ray refers to images that are created of your bones and internal organs. X-ray is a painless procedure that allows the radiologist to examine your body for a diagnosis. A special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy in addition to an orally ingested contrast material called barium is used to evaluate certain structures within the body. Fluoroscopy makes it possible to see internal organs in motion.
Preparing for X-Ray and Fluoroscopy
In most cases no preparation is required for a general x-ray. The technologist will have the patient remove any jewelry and may have the patient change into a gown if clothes are worn with metal closures that may interfere with obtaining a clear image. The average x-ray takes less than 20 minutes.
Depending on the type of fluoroscopy procedure the patient may be instructed to follow a preparation the day before the exam. Please contact our office for specific instructions related to the exam scheduled.

Following Fluoroscopy
The patient can resume normal activity. Fluids are encouraged to help any contrast material that was used move through the body. One of our radiologists will interpret the exam and send the results to the patient's physician.
