Services > Bone Density (DEXA)

A Bone Density (DEXA) study measures the calcium content of your bones. This study uses low dose radiation combined with computerized analysis to provide information regarding bone density to determine if a patient is at risk for fracture..

There is no preparation for this exam. Please be sure to wear clothing with no metal closures or the technologist will ask you to change into a gown.

During the exam the patient will be asked to lie on a table. The technologist will be with the patient during the exam while a moveable scanning arm will pass over the patient’s spine and hips. Upon completion of the scanning process the technologist will print out a computerized report for the radiologist to review.

The patient can resume normal activity following a Bone Density study. One of our radiologists will interpret the exam and send the results to the patient’s physician.
